Major General Sir Nils Olav, a King Penguin at Edinburgh Zoo, holds the world's highest-ranking animal title and serves as military mascot for the Norwegian King's Guard. The penguin has progressed through military ranks since 1982, receiving his Major General promotion in 2023 with approval from King Harald V of Norway.
