Chester Zoo celebrates birth of Womble, only second aardvark born in 94-year history

Zookeepers at Chester Zoo have successfully hand-reared a newborn aardvark calf named Womble after the mother was unable to produce sufficient milk. The calf, only the second aardvark ever born at the zoo, required supplementary bottle-feeding throughout the night for several weeks but is now thriving alongside its mother in the Heart of Africa zone.
