Belfast Zoo's two Barbary lionesses Thheiba and Fidda pass away at 22

Thheiba and Fidda, sister Barbary lionesses at Belfast Zoo, have both been euthanised at 22 years old — well above the average life expectancy for lions. Both were key contributors to the EAZA Ex-Situ Programme, producing multiple offspring to help secure the future of this subspecies now extinct in the wild.
