Marwell Wildlife celebrates 40 years of scimitar-horned oryx reintroduction in Tunisia

Sophie Whitemore, Programme Officer for the IUCN's Antelope Specialist Group, visited Tunisia in May 2025 to monitor wild scimitar-horned oryx as part of Marwell's four-decade conservation partnership. The reintroduction programme has established a population of around 40 animals in Bou Hedma National Park, representing a major milestone in the species' recovery from extinction in the wild.
