Hertfordshire Zoo is actively supporting lowland tapir conservation through funding and partnership with the Lowland Tapir Conservation Initiative in Brazil. The zoo recognises that lowland tapirs, classified as Vulnerable in the wild, play a crucial role as 'gardeners of the rainforest' by dispersing seeds and maintaining forest health across South America.
